Service Description

This short session prepares both body and mind for the day ahead. It combines structured breathing with gentle mobility to improve circulation, joint movement, and nervous system balance. The pace is calm and controlled. Exercises are accessible and adaptable for all levels. The class begins with diaphragmatic breathing to support efficient respiratory mechanics. Slow nasal breathing has been shown to increase parasympathetic activity and improve heart rate variability, which are linked with reduced stress and improved emotional regulation (Laborde et al., 2022; Zaccaro et al., 2018). Breath-led mobility then encourages movement through the spine, shoulders and hips. Low intensity stretching can improve range of motion by increasing tissue extensibility and reducing morning stiffness, without negatively affecting muscle performance when performed gently (Behm et al., 2016). Coordinating breathing with movement may also enhance body awareness, which is associated with improved self-regulation and psychological wellbeing (Jerath et al., 2015). Regular practice may support: • improved posture and thoracic mobility • reduced neck and back tension • improved autonomic nervous system balance • enhanced focus and mental clarity • a calmer transition into daily activity This session is suitable for all abilities and requires no equipment. It is particularly helpful for those experiencing stiffness, prolonged sitting, or disrupted sleep patterns. Evidence base Slow breathing techniques are associated with improved vagal tone and reduced perceived stress (Zaccaro et al., 2018). Controlled breathing has been shown to influence emotional processing and cognitive function (Jerath et al., 2015). Gentle stretching improves joint range and may reduce musculoskeletal discomfort (Behm et al., 2016). Heart rate variability research demonstrates links between autonomic regulation and health outcomes (Laborde et al., 2022).
