Café Conversations on Health & Fitness - Shaping Your Future – Making Lasting Change. Each week we take a closer look at some of the most frequently asked health and fitness questions. Sessions include discussion and practical follow-up exercises. These are based on research that supports healthy, sustainable change. Week 1 — 23rd September 2025 - How Our Hormones Influence Our Health I have spent many years researching the influence of oestrogen on women’s health during menopause. This also included looking at testosterone and progesterone, and how males are affected too. This session summarises what happens as we age, the impact on our physical and mental health, and most importantly, what we can do to help. Week 2 — 30th September 2025 - Strength at Home: Building and Maintaining Progress Muscle is vital as we age, but gyms are not always accessible or welcoming. We will look at why strength is so important and explore how to build and maintain it in the home environment. Week 3 — 7th October 2025 - Pre-Diabetes and Type 2 Diabetes: Exercise as Prevention and Management Being told you are “pre-diabetic” can feel confusing. This session explains the warning signs, why they occur, and what actions can help. Together, we will look at how exercise and lifestyle can reduce or even reverse the risk. Week 4 — 14th October 2025 - Cholesterol: What Helps, What Hurts, and What to Do About It Menopause can raise cholesterol levels even if we haven’t changed our habits. We will look at what cholesterol is, why it matters, and the evidence-based steps we can take to improve results and reduce reliance on medication. Week 5 — 21st October 2025 - Get Up, Get Down: Reclaiming Mobility and Confidence The ability to move to and from the floor is key for independence. Whether you have stiff joints or back issues, this session explores the mechanics of movement and how to improve mobility for daily life. Week 6 — 28th October 2025 - Maintaining Momentum: Tips for Sustainable Fitness To close the series, we will focus on how to keep positive changes going. From weight management to bone and muscle health, sleep, and nutrition, we will map out strategies to help protect your long-term wellbeing.
