Café Spring 26 – Weekly Topics Week 1: The confidence to make a change Tuesday Podcast: Understanding motivation has always been central to my work. We often know what we “should” be doing, yet behaviour does not always follow intention. This session explores principles from sport psychology, alongside coaching experience and research, to help translate intention into action. Thursday Podcast: Practical ways to improve dietary habits. Simple strategies to support energy levels, general health, body composition and muscle maintenance. Week 2: Bounce and Balance Tuesday Podcast: Fitness includes strength and endurance, but also motor fitness. This relates to balance, coordination, speed of reaction and change of direction. These qualities support functional movement and are important for reducing fall risk, particularly where bone health is a concern. Thursday Podcast: Nutrition for brain health. The relationship between food choice, cognitive function and long-term neurological wellbeing. Week 3: Maximising metabolism Tuesday Podcast: Metabolism and gut health change across the lifespan. This session considers how exercise intensity, daily activity, stress management and recovery influence metabolic health and body composition. Thursday Podcast: Hormonal changes influence cholesterol, digestion and inflammation. Practical nutrition strategies to support gut health and reduce bloating. Week 4: Fitness, arthritis and joint pain Tuesday Podcast: Joint discomfort can become a barrier to activity, particularly as oestrogen declines. We examine why joint symptoms occur and how appropriate exercise and nutrition can support movement, function and sleep quality. Thursday Podcast: The role of lifestyle behaviours in the management of Type 2 Diabetes, with a focus on maintaining activity and metabolic health. Week 5: Core control Tuesday Podcast: A detailed look at the structure and function of the core. We consider muscle coordination, postural stability and the influence of injury or back pain. Practical training approaches are discussed. Thursday Podcast: Sleep regulation and ageing. The interaction between sleep, metabolism, body composition and cognitive function. Week 6: Hormonal health Tuesday Podcast: Hormones influence energy, mood, appetite and recovery. Understanding endocrine responses allows exercise, nutrition and lifestyle to be used more effectively to support long-term health. Thursday Podcast: Developing sustainable systems that support you
