Service Description

You are right. That wording is dated and too focused on a single idea of “correct” technique. Modern coaching is much more about movement options, individual differences, load, intent and context. This 20-minute coaching workshop looks at the fundamental strength exercises and how to perform them effectively. We will explore the main movement patterns used in strength and conditioning, including squats, hinges, pushes, pulls, lunges and carries. Rather than chasing one idea of “perfect technique”, we will look at how each movement can be adapted to suit the individual, the exercise goal, the load being used and your current level of experience. I will coach you through the key points that make each exercise effective. We will look at set-up, range of movement, control, load selection and how the exercise should change as you become stronger and more experienced. You will also learn how to recognise when an exercise needs to be adapted. That might mean changing stance, range, equipment, tempo or load. There is rarely only one way to perform an exercise well, and good coaching is about finding the version that works for you while still achieving the intended training effect. As a former Course Director for Level 3 Gym Instructor training, and a fitness coach with decades of experience, I have spent many years teaching both instructors and clients how to lift, coach and progress strength exercises. These workshops are ideal if you are new to strength training, returning after a break, want to improve your lifting skills, or simply want a better understanding of why we perform exercises in a particular way. Strength training is a skill as well as a physical stimulus. The better you understand the movements, the easier it becomes to progress your training with confidence. The Strength and Conditioning Workshop forms part of the online Café Rachel programme. Each coaching session lasts approximately 20 minutes. Buy a Café Rachel pass to access these workshops and the wider programme of online sessions.
